In 1976 the Ark City Tumbleweeds car club started and later that same year The LAST RUN premiered. The club was chartered in January and the overly enthusiastic, perhaps naïve, members took the bold step to host their first rod run in September. At that time all the rod runs in Kansas/Oklahoma area were held in the spring and summer, so the AC Tumbleweeds set the date of their first car show in late September to avoid competing with runs already scheduled. The fourth full weekend in September was chosen and has become the traditional date for The LAST RUN. The name was picked because it was the final rod run of the season. From a very rainy weekend in 1976 with 75 entries, The LAST RUN has continued to grow with attendance and activities to please participants and spectators. Number of entries in recent years has been around 1,000 with a record attendance at the 25th anniversary of 1,365. Ark City Tumbleweeds membership is made up of individuals from many different walks of life with a common interest in cars and the enjoyment of related activities. New members are always welcome; contact us by email below for more information.
